June 26th SpeleoFVG has born

The mailing list named SpeleoFVG has been created in order to make easier to exchange info and ideas between cavers of the Friuli Venezia Giulia and everyone who has an interest in caving in this area. The mailing list is open to any caver, from Italy or abroad, interested in caving and caves of
the region where the classic Triest Carst and the Mount Canin massif lay.
It is possible to subscribe the mailing list sending a message (with no subject or text) to the following address:
speleofvg-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
The mailing list is open and not moderated: we trust in the respect of netiquette.

Echolocating Bats Use a Nearly Time-Optimal Strategy to Intercept Prey

An interesting article explain the bats strategies in prey hunting. The research by Kaushik Ghose, Timothy K. Horiuchi, P. S. Krishnaprasad and Cynthia F. Moss is available on line on Plos Biology a peer-rewieved opn-access journal edited by the Public Library of Science.

First Cavers’ Camp of the Balkans “ Balkan’2007”

The Bulgarian Federation of Speleology and Balkan Speleological Union
have the pleasure to invite the cavers and speleologists from the Balkan countries to take part in the First Cavers’ Camp of the Balkans “ Balkan’2007”

Period
The Camp will be held from 28 June to 1 July 2007″
Note: Aim
The first aim of “Speleo Balkan’2007” is to create conditions for communication among cavers from Balkan countries in order to establish steady relationships and collaborations! During the camp each caver can meet new friends from different countries, discuss under the caving and visit some of the famous caves in the Rhodope Mt.
Preliminary program
Arrival – 27 June 2007, Wednesday.
Opening of the Camp – 28 June 2007.
Camp Activites – 28 June-1 July 2007.
The Camp activities’ program foresees visiting of some of the most interesting and spectacular caves - Jagodinskata peshtera – 8501m; Lednitzata – 1470m; Eminovata – 960m; Sanchova Dupka – 888m; Haramiyska Dupka; The show cave Devil’s Throat and some interesting potholes, not deeper than 170 m. During the evening hours the participants could make multimedia presentations of their national speleology, their club , results from expeditions, new discoveries, etc. There will be held also an international song competition! The delegates, who present the national speleological organizations, will take part in the General Assembly of the Balkan Speleological Union, which aim is to sign a Protocol for cooperation.
Departure – afternoon of 1 July 2007
Necessary equipment : Camping gear, individual caving equipment for caves and potholes.
Accommodation: The participants who wont to camp, should bring their own camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags etc.)There is a tourist hut nearby, where the cost of one bed per night is 8 leva (4 Euro) (1 Euro is 1.957 leva).

Meals: The cavers can choose some of the following possibilities: to bring food, to buy food from the nearest villages, to use the service of the tourist hut or the nearest restaurant!

How to reach Teshel?
When you come to Bulgaria, you should take a bus or train to the city of Plovdiv, South Bulgaria. From there you have to look for a bus to the town of Devin. The distance between Devin and Teshel is only 13 km. You can go there by bus or taxi! The best way to reach the place of the Camp is your own vehicle! In case, that we receive more applications for participation, we could provide the transportation of the cavers from Sofia or Plovdiv to the place of the Camp. That is why, please, do not hesitate and express your will for participation on time!

Distance from place to place: Russe- Plovdiv- 274 km.; Svilengrad-Plovdiv – 141 km; Sofia-Plovdiv – 149 km.; Gotze Delchev - Devin (the easier way to reach the place from Greece is Kato Nevrokopi, Drama District) ; Plovdiv – Pamporovo via Chepelare – 75 km; Pamporovo – Devin – 31 km.
Applications
Please inform us about your interest to take part in the Camp by making application. You can do this by using free text, but you should include your full name and contact address. The cavers from the countries outside the European Union should add to their application the number and date of issue of their international passport. This is necessary for preparing of an official invitation, which will make easier the visa procedures for Bulgaria!
