After the call of the Bulgarian Federation of Speleology (BFS), the FSE Bureau has decided to invite you to sign the petition of the BFS to support the adoption of a new national law to avoid the present destruction of Bulgarian caves.

International Caving Camp Supramontes 2010

Please forward this mail to any potentially interested (nice) caver.

we are fully preparing the International Caving Camp Supramontes 2010 to be held in Urzulei (Sardinia) from 1 to 15 august 2010.
We now have a website in which you can find all necessary information.

For logistical needs we ask participants to register in this website, compiling the online form, and to pay a minimum amount of 40 Euros (guaranteeing 5 days of camp).
Subscription fees are composed of registration (5 euros) and a daily fee of 7 Euros.
e.g., if one intends to stay 8 days the amount to be paid is 5 + 8×7 = 61 Euros, if one stays the entire 14 days the sum to be paid is 103 Euros.
Subscription gives right to accommodation and food for the indicated days.
Two social dinners will be organised (half camp and end of camp) and will be paid for (at moderate prices) on site.
Don’t be afraid, if you pay for 8 days and in the end you only stay for 4 you will be refunded.

Note the Camp is organised in a “hot” period, so the earlier you book the ferries (Tirrenia, Moby Lines, Sardinia Ferries etc.) the better!
There will be a shuttle for Cagliari and Olbia airports, and if necessary also from Alghero. Just let us know in time!

Consultation - EuroSpeleo Protection - Charta - 10 points

Dear Caving Friends,

The Cave Protection Commission (ECPC) of the European Federation (FSE) organises a wide consultation of every European caver in order to build the European Charta of reference for Cave and Karst Protection. It has been brepared by the 30 members of the ECPC coming from more than 15 European countries, under the supervision of the ECPC President ad interim, Ioana Meleg. For the other countries (cf. list in post-scriptum) or for already participating countries, if you are motivated to contribute to the ECPC work or simply receive the information of the commission, please send an email with your data to protection@eurospeleo.org

This charta is made for the European cavers and general public. It is not made to replace the International Guidelines for Cave and Karst Protection (65 pages) :

It is neither made to replace the national charta your federation might have, but rather to harmonise the existing national documents that all go in the same direction.

The aim is to get a short document in 10 points that fits in a half page and that all cavers can understand and make it their own.

News from FSE GAM at Hidden Earth

Dear Friends
This email to give you the highlights of the FSE GAM that happenned on Saturday at Hidden Earth :

* On 25 member countries, 19 were present and 4 gave a valid proxy.
* The opening of EuroSpeleo Projects to Euro-Mediterranean projects (with Africa & Middle East) have been adopted.
* The ICEdb project (International Caving Expeditions database) has been officially launched by the General Assembly.
* The procedure to take decisions by electronic vote have been officially adopted by the GAM.
* The ECPC Internal Regulations will be validated by electronic vote after email debate on some specific points.
* The General Assembly will now have a meeting every year.
* Some changes have occured with the fees (cf. email from Manuel Freire to the FSE delegates).
* Juan Carlos Lopez and Olivier Vidal have been reconducted in their positions of President and Secretary General.
* A working group will make a proposal during next GAM of European regulations about vertical techniques competitions, in which such competitions would be forbidden in caves.

A draft of the detailled meeting report should be ready within few days, and the final version should be broadcasted by mid-october.
This Hidden Earth edition seems to be the biggest one ever organised with more than 800 participants from more than 25 present countries.

This email to inform you that if you want to participate to the Saturday evening dinner at Hidden Earth, you need to register before the congress online because the organisers assume that it will not be possible to register for it on the congress-site (limited capacity).

Dear Caving Friends

Before a summer full of caving explorations around Europe and overseas, we are happy to give you some speleological news from all over Europe.

First of all we want to warmly thank the SSI and the Sardinian organisers of the IVth EuroSpeleo Forum that took place in Urzulzei-Italy early May and that have gathered more than 1700 cavers including nearly 300 European cavers coming from outside of Italy. It was a great success in spite of the difficulty to organise such a big event on a Mediterranean island. The fascinating Sardinian caves and the traditional SpeleoBar have been very much appreciated by all those who made the trip there.

FSE’ GAM AT HIDDEN EARTH :

The European Speleological Federation will be present during next British caving conference Hidden Earth 2009, end of September, with the FSE General Assembly Meeting (GAM) that will be held on the congress site on the Saturday 26th of September 2009 at 2pm. The gathering will be held from the 25th to the 27th of September in Churchill, England at 10km from Bristol international airport. It will be the opportunity to meet cavers from all over Europe. FSE ROUND TABLES ON INSPIRE & EXPEDITIONS :

On one hand, after numerous requests it is proposed to organise at Hidden Earth a Round Table on the subject of “Speleology & European Environmental GIS Standards INSPIRE”. On the other hand, in the frame of the “International Caving Expeditions Database” project held by the FSE and the UIS, it is also proposed to have a round table around this project. Manuel Freire, project leader, will chair the meeting.

The persons interested to take part to one of these round-tables should send us an email to contact@eurospeleo.org before the 10th of July indicating the round-table name and the schedule they would prefer for the Round Table on September (Saturday 26th morning, Saturday 26th evening or Sunday 27th morning - choice1 & choice2).

ICS 2009 IN TEXAS :

With already more than 1250 pre-registered participants including nearly 400 non-US cavers, the next International Congress of Speleology 2009, end of July in Texas, is to be a very nice event where it will be possible to meet with speleologists from all over the world. The European Speleological Federation will be represented there by its president, secretary and treasurer. There will be a meeting between the members of the UIS Bureau and the FSE Bureau. If you have a proposal of a specific issue you would like to be dealt during this meeting, please send it to us at contact@eurospeleo.org before the 3rd of July.

Since, according to the tradition, next International Congress should be held on 2013 in Europe, we encourage every European cavers going to Texas to take contact with the FSE Bureau members in order to coordinate our efforts for that. And if, for this event, you want to wear a European’ Caver T-shirt, please send us asap an email to contact@eurospeleo.org . The cost is 10 euros for short sleeves and 15 euros for long sleeves (+3 euros for postage).

FSE : THE LATEST NEWS

FSE counts now 23 full members with 2 new countries : Norway (full member) and Croatia (in finalization of membership).

FSE CAVE PROTECTION :

The ECPC will hold its official meeting during the Balkan Cavers Camp 2009 from 24th-28th June in Olimpos, Antalia, Turkey. The meeting will be chaired by Viorel Lascu and Ioana Meleg from the ECPC board and Alexey Zhalov from the FSE Bureau. The agenda will include the following topics :

1. European Cave Day

2. EuroSpeleo Protection Label

3. Priorities regarding Cave protection in Balkans

INCREASE OF EUROSPELEO PROJECTS FUND :

Since the beginning of 2009, the FSE has given the EuroSpeleo Projects (ESP) label to 6 new speleological projects that have gathered at least 5 European countries (expeditions, camps, workshops, symposiums, trainings, scientific experiments, publications, etc). A presentation of these projects will be made at Hidden Earth by the FSE Vice-Secretary, Alexey Zhalov.

A good news is that, following last European congress in France, the FFS has donated to the FSE for the ESP fund the amount of 8500 euros, resulting from the participants fees in Vercors and the positive balance. On its meeting of the 2nd of May 2009, the FSE Bureau has decided to increase the minimum grant level from 100 euros to 400 euros and to nearly double the general budget relative to the ESP funding. For the next EuroSpeleo Forums we encourage the organisers to do the same and to collect 1 euro per day and per participant (ie. 3 euros for 3 days) for the ESP fund.

Since the 1st of March 2009, every ESP labelled projects receive, over the FSE financial grant, 500 m of caving rope (with choice of diameter) from our FSE Official Partner : BEAL (their multilingual site is on www.BealPlanet.com). The first kilometers of caving ropes should arrive on the field on early July for the ESP projects. BEAL Ropes will send us soon some news about their activities.
