Our planet’s massive, hidden continent of caves could hold the key to the history of life and could help secure its future, predicts Francesco Sauro, a speleologist, at the Every Second Counts Forum. The 2014 Rolex Young Laureate for Exploration says cave systems measuring hundreds of thousands of kilometres could offer up bacteria and minerals for significant developments in medicine and materials science.
